At UFC 320 on Saturday night, Brazilian fighter Alex Pereira delivered a spectacular first-round knockout victory against Magomed Ankalaev, thereby reclaiming the UFC light heavyweight championship. The event also saw Merab Dvalishvili successfully defend his bantamweight title in the co-main event.

Pereira, 38, who had previously lost the title to Ankalaev (33, 21-2-1) by unanimous decision in March, approached their rematch at the T-Mobile Arena with immediate aggression, rushing his Russian opponent from the opening bell.

The decisive moment came when Pereira landed a powerful right hand, visibly hurting Ankalaev. As Ankalaev attempted to grapple, Pereira followed him to the ground, unleashing a barrage of strikes to the head and body. This sustained assault prompted referee Herb Dean to intervene and stop the fight at just one minute and 20 seconds into the first round.

“Vengeance is never a good thing. It`s kind of a poison. I told everyone I was not in a good condition last time, nobody believed it,” Pereira stated in a post-fight interview. He added, “I don`t like to make excuses, but I`ve been saying I wasn`t well that night, but tonight I`m very well.”

Statistical analysis of the fight highlights Pereira`s dominance: the 38-year-old Brazilian landed 28 out of 45 significant strike attempts, while Ankalaev managed to connect with only four out of his nine attempts.

The 19,081 spectators in attendance, including notable sports figures like Golden State Warriors stars Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler, and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, erupted in a frenzy as soon as Dean halted the contest.

Before leaving the octagon, Pereira observed a moment of silence, paying tribute to former NFL linebacker Arthur Jones, brother of former UFC champion Jon Jones, who had passed away on Friday.

Earlier on the fight card, in a bout widely considered a light heavyweight title eliminator for the opportunity to face Pereira, second-ranked contender Jiri Prochazka (32-5-1) delivered a brutal left-hand knockout to Khalil Rountree Jr (15-7-0) at 3:04 of the third round, a performance that earned him the `Fight of the Night` bonus.

The co-main event featured Georgia`s Merab Dvalishvili, who utilized a relentless wrestling attack to comprehensively outclass Cory Sandhagen. Dvalishvili secured a unanimous decision victory over the American, marking his third successful title defense since first claiming the bantamweight championship in September 2024.
