Charles Oliveira achieved what no one else had managed.
Saturday`s UFC Rio event marked a triumphant return home for one of Brazil`s greatest mixed martial arts stars.
Just months after a painful title loss to Ilia Topuria, Oliveira successfully rebounded by defeating Mateusz Gamrot in front of his compatriots at Farmasi Arena.
“Do Bronx” proved wrong those who had written him off after the UFC 317 outcome, accomplishing a feat unparalleled by any other fighterโฆ
Mateusz Gamrot`s Undefeated Finishing Streak Halted by Charles Oliveira
Charles Oliveiraโs second-round rear-naked choke submission at UFC Rio was his first finish since June 2023. This victory further solidified his lead in the record for most stoppages in Octagon history.
Moreover, this result broke new ground for “Do Bronx.” Firstly, Oliveira tied the legendary Mirko Cro Cop`s record for most finishes in Zuffa history (UFC, Pride, WEC, Strikeforce), surpassing both Wanderlei Silva and Donald Cerrone with his 21st stoppage victory.
The moment Gamrot tapped out also brought an end to an impressive 29-fight streak. Prior to his trip to Rio de Janeiro, “Gamer” had suffered three losses in 29 fights, all of which came by decision.
Thus, Oliveira became the very first fighter to finish Gamrot inside the distance, an achievement that took 30 fights in the Polish star`s career.
Charles Oliveira Challenges Max Holloway for BMF Title at UFC Rio
After consistently setting records and ending streaks with his latest cage performance, “Do Bronx” now seeks a confrontation with another name well-known in UFC history.
Oliveira challenged Max Holloway to a fight at UFC Rio, as the Brazilian fan favorite looks for a rematch against “Blessed” a decade after their initial encounter.
“Hey Hunter (Campbell), Charles Oliveira vs. Max Holloway,” Oliveira declared into the microphone during his Octagon interview.
“BMF (title). Let`s make it happen.”
