Quinton โ€˜Rampageโ€™ Jackson once sought an unexpected sparring partner while gearing up for a significant fight. Throughout his career, the former UFC light heavyweight champion faced numerous top-tier competitors of his time. His intense rivalry with Wanderlei Silva culminated in a tied score after their fourth encounter, with Silva being among several legends `Rampage` fought.

While his rivalry with Silva might be remembered for one of Jackson`s most cherished knockout victories, he achieved other equally remarkable KOs. The veteran fighter, now 47, recently disclosed his unique preparation strategy for facing another legendary figure whom he would defeat twice.

`Rampage` Jackson`s Surprising Comparison: Herb Dean and Chuck Liddell

Most mixed martial arts enthusiasts are familiar with Herb Dean, a frequently seen figure inside the Octagon. Despite recent criticisms, the seasoned official is widely regarded as one of MMA`s most experienced referees. What many might not realize is that Dean initially entered the cage not as a referee, but as a professional fighter, holding a 2-3 record between 2001 and 2007.

On a recent episode of the JAXXON PODCAST, Quinton โ€˜Rampageโ€™ Jackson astonished his co-hosts by disclosing that he had once asked Dean for help prior to his fight against Chuck Liddell.

“It`s challenging to find sparring partners who can emulate an opponent in MMA. I specifically sought someone who fought like Chuck Liddell, and the only person I could think of was Herb Dean. However, Herb Dean declined, stating, `No, I have to remain neutral. I can`t assist you in training for your fight,`” Jackson recounted.

Initially, his co-hosts, including former UFC champion TJ Dillashaw, were skeptical until Jackson explained Dean`s past as a professional fighter before transitioning to officiating. Jackson then reiterated the seriousness of his intention to have Dean aid his preparation for `The Iceman`.

“I sparred with Herb Dean years ago, and believe me when I say this, Herb Dean`s movements are very similar to Chuck Liddell`s.”

`Rampage` Jackson Ultimately Triumphed Over Chuck Liddell Without Herb Dean`s Assistance

Jackson fought Chuck Liddell twice in his career, and it`s not specified which particular bout he was referencing. Irrespective of the specific fight, the UFC legend ultimately didn`t require Herb Dean`s help to prepare for their memorable encounters.

Jackson defeated Liddell twice: first in Pride in 2003, and again for the light heavyweight title at UFC 75. `Rampage` secured stoppage victories over `The Iceman` in both fights, marking two of the former champion`s most notable career wins.
