Ukrainian cruiserweight boxer Vitaliy Rusal has tragically died while serving on the front lines in the war against Russia. The athlete, who hailed from Zaporizhzhia, was 45 years old and had adopted the military call sign `Amigo`.
The sorrowful news of Rusal`s death was confirmed by his former coach, Alexander Likhter, via a heartfelt announcement on his personal Facebook page. Rusal, a former IBO intercontinental champion, had volunteered for military service and joined the armed forces in 2022.
In his statement confirming the loss, Likhter expressed deep regret and offered his condolences to the fighter`s family.
“Unfortunately, the information has been confirmed. Our boxer Vitaliy Rusal died at the front. Eternal memory to Vitaliy and condolences to his family.”
